Gone, But Not Forgotten
Horses we love remain with us, for love itself lives on, and cherished memories never fade, because a loved horse is gone...Horses we love can never be more than a thought apart, for as long as there is memory, they'll live on in our heart. Ever wonder what the Rainbow Bridge is?
Rita
Rita is a 12 year old mare. She is very nice and has given rides to small children.
Newly
Maize
Maize is a 10+ year old mare that came in with 9 other minis. They were are badly neglected. Some are starving, most have the worst feet I have seen and the recovery process will be at least a year for those. Maize and her foal Ga Ga are in the worst shape. Ga Ga nearly died before we could get her to the vet. Mazie is so starved that Ga Ga could not get any milk or nutrition. She is dehydrated and starved and will be feed by hand for awhile and then hopefully move on to some pellets. She is very sweet.
UPDATE -
Mazie is having a hard time. We pulled her foal off to help her and to help the foal. Mazie is in a lot of pain with her front feet. She has abscesses and her tendons are very tight. She is also 70-90 pounds underweight. It will take extensive rehabilitation for her, but she is so happy and willing. She is just a fighter!
Maize's pain finally caught up to her and along with farrier and vet opinions we laid her to rest. Maize was a truly amazing mini that will never be forgotten.
Bullet
Bullet was found October 18th in abandoned in a ditch by some passers-by. He was taken in and we were called to help. He had a severe injury to his front knee and horrible back feet as well as an abscess in his stomach. We took him to the vet but he was too bad to save. His knee had already calcified as it was an old injury that no one had tended too. He would have had chronic pain and no range of motion. Not a life for a 3 year old. Some of his teeth were knocked out and he had several old scars on his face. He was laid to rest on Monday, October 20th, 2008. It is because of him however that 5 more horses were found and rescued. They will be pictured soon.
Serendipity
Liberty
Liberty crossed the Rainbow Bridge today - September 19th, 2008. She was loved dearly by so many people at her original SD rescue and at Triple H Miniature Horse Rescue. She will be missed. She had it pretty rough, but was so brave!

Euthanasia
Euthanasia is always a hard, traumatic, sad, and tough decision to make. However, sometimes it is the most compassionate action one can take. Triple H Miniature Horse Rescue is faced with this sort of decision once in a while and it is always well thought out before any kind of action is taken. We visit with the vet and farrier to get their opinions as well when faced with a euthanasia decision.
GUIDELINES FOR EUTHANASIA:
- Does the horse have chronic pain?
- Is there chronic or severe lameness?
- Has there been, or is there a severe injury?
- Does or will the horse have any quality of life?
- Is the horse dangerous to itself or others?
- Is the horse's pain curable?
- What are the financial responsibilities for the horse?
- Is the horse adoptable?
