Gone, But Not Forgotten

Horses we love remain with us, for love itself lives on, and cherished memories never fade, because a loved horse is gone...Horses we love can never be more than a thought apart, for as long as there is memory, they'll live on in our heart. Ever wonder what the Rainbow Bridge is?

Rita

Rita is a 12 year old mare. She is very nice and has given rides to small children.

Rita

Rita, Rita full of beauty,
She really was a small brown beauty.
She came to us lame and we just wanted to give her love,
We realized her time was short and she would soon be above.
I will not let a horse live in chronic pain,
Not for you or me or someone else's gain.
Her feet were sore with founder and were not getting better,
Even though we were doing everything we could right to the letter.
She was not on grass, alfalfa or sweets,
Just dry hay, dry lot and lots of love for a treat.

She had pain in her eyes and a yearning in her heart,
To just be pain free and have a brand new fresh start.
We granted that wish for Rita today
We laid her to rest, our beautiful bay.
I hear her soft knicker and hoof beats at night,
Even though I can’t see her, she’s nowhere in sight.
I am not sad or scared or lonely you see,
I know Rita is in heaven, where she should be!

Newly

Newly - A Poem

Newly

Our Jenny Cinder arrived already bred A month and a half later our baby jack was born dead.

It was a terrible night that New Year’s eve This kind of life he did not deserve to receive.

He did not have even one shot at life We do not think he strained or had strife.

Our Jenny was so sad and kept on braying And we were so mad and kept on saying.

You know why this happened and where this is leading This was a result of negligent, careless breeding.

Nothing should be expected to give birth in the snow It should be a June evening where gentle winds blow.

Who would let this happen? What a waste Not even a breath of fresh air did he taste.

I waited and waited for my little Jacks day So I could start training and take him to play.

We will miss the Jack that never got a chance But I know he is now running in heaven surrounded by dance.

The good news is mom will never again have to strain To have a baby or go thru the pain.

For at the rescue we do not allow an animal to become bred I think you know why and enough has been said!

Good bye sweet Newly.

Maize

Maize is a 10+ year old mare that came in with 9 other minis. They were are badly neglected. Some are starving, most have the worst feet I have seen and the recovery process will be at least a year for those. Maize and her foal Ga Ga are in the worst shape. Ga Ga nearly died before we could get her to the vet. Mazie is so starved that Ga Ga could not get any milk or nutrition. She is dehydrated and starved and will be feed by hand for awhile and then hopefully move on to some pellets. She is very sweet.

UPDATE -

Mazie is having a hard time. We pulled her foal off to help her and to help the foal. Mazie is in a lot of pain with her front feet. She has abscesses and her tendons are very tight. She is also 70-90 pounds underweight. It will take extensive rehabilitation for her, but she is so happy and willing. She is just a fighter!

Mazie

Maize was rescued late in December
It is her gentle eyes I will always remember

Scared, thin, a baby and in pain
So much weight that she would have to gain

She raised her baby as fast as she could
And then gained the weight that she knew she should

Maize tried to recover day by day
But the farrier said her pain was to stay

She waxed and waned
Lived continually with pain

Her life this neglect had taken and stole
I let the tears down my cheek start to roll

Is this ok? Is it what God had in mind
When he created this horse so sweet and kind?

I was mad and angry to say the least
But finally decided to make my peace

Maize taught me a life is never wasted
If only for a few months it was greener pastures she tasted

She received so much ove the minute she arrived
And though in pain it helped her to thrive

Maize got her feet trimmed, some treats and did her best
To walk to the pasture where she was laid to rest

Heaven is now her permanent home
Where she is loved and fed and forever to roam

We will miss that beautiful gal with the thick mane
And know that neglect is such a huge shame

Why does this happen? God will only know
But I believe, you reap what you sow

So neglector beware, and live while you can
I hear Hell has an opening and you may be their man!

GOOD-BYE MAIZE

Maize's pain finally caught up to her and along with farrier and vet opinions we laid her to rest. Maize was a truly amazing mini that will never be forgotten.

Bullet

Bullet was found October 18th in abandoned in a ditch by some passers-by. He was taken in and we were called to help. He had a severe injury to his front knee and horrible back feet as well as an abscess in his stomach. We took him to the vet but he was too bad to save. His knee had already calcified as it was an old injury that no one had tended too. He would have had chronic pain and no range of motion. Not a life for a 3 year old. Some of his teeth were knocked out and he had several old scars on his face. He was laid to rest on Monday, October 20th, 2008. It is because of him however that 5 more horses were found and rescued. They will be pictured soon.

Bullet

It was by Steele ND that Bullet was found
Standing in a ditch that was not safe OR sound.

He was loaded up and brought to a home
so he wouldn’t be scared or left to be alone.

With a bad bruise to his leg and abscess in tummy
he was doing his best despite feeling crummy.

It was the next day that the rescue was called
and what they saw made them VERY appalled.

After the vet did his check it was plain to see
that Bullet was not meant on this earth to be.

Bullet was sent to heaven today
There he will run and lope and play.

I’m sure he will be doing a dance
Saying thank you to Brenda and Lance.

The people who rescued him on that fateful night
Standing in the ditch barely in sight.

Serendipity

Arriving so young but with an old broken back
IT was personality Sary did not lack.

Our beautiful little paint
Almost seemed like a saint.

The vet said what a miracle she really was
As run and walk and care she still does.

But some pain started getting in Sary's way
So in our world she just couldn't stay

We said our good-byes and laid her in the ground
Where we know God will take her from there keeping her healthy
Safe and sound.

Good-Bye Sary

Our Precious Liberty

THE SD RESCUE THE THOUGHT I COULD NOT SHAKE
I KNEW THIS WAS A HORSE I MUST IMMEDIATLEY TAKE

IN SUCH PAIN FROM HER FEET THAT SHE COULD BARELY WALK
I ONLY WISHED I COULD HELP AND THAT SHE COULD TELL AND TALK

IN SUCH PAIN EVERYDAY BUT EYES THAT STILL WOULD SHINE
I WAS SO PROUD TO CALL THIS WONDERFUL HORSE MINE

AS THE PAIN GOT WORSE AND NOT ONE STEP SHE COULD TAKE
WE KNEW A ROUCH DECISION WE WOULD HAVE TO MAKE

LIBERTY GOT LOTS OF TREATS, SOME HUGS AND WAS KISSED
THIS LITTLE LADY WAS GOING TO BE GREATLY MISSED

STEVE HELPED DIG A HOLE WITH TEARS IN HIS EYES
BACK AT THE BARN THERE WERE LOTS OF CRIES

LIBERTY WAS THEN LED TO THE BIG HOLE
AFTER SHE SAID GOOD BYE TO HER FOAL

LIBERTY LAID DOWN AS PEACEFUL AS COULD BE
HER LIFE WAS NOW OVER AND SHE WAS LIVING PAIN FREE

SHE IS RUNNING AND JUMPING IN LONG GREEN GRASS
NO ACHES NO PAINS SHE IS FREE AT LAST

WE DID NOT LOSE OUR LIBERTY THAT DAY
FOR IN OUR HEARTS AND MEMORIES SHE WILL ALWAYS STAY.

Liberty crossed the Rainbow Bridge today - September 19th, 2008. She was loved dearly by so many people at her original SD rescue and at Triple H Miniature Horse Rescue. She will be missed. She had it pretty rough, but was so brave!

Squeekers

SQUEEKERS OUR HORSE FROM PINGREE
WAS AS SWEET AS AS SWEET AS A HORSE COULD BE.

THOUGH SHE WAS A HORSE OF FULL SIZE
I WILL TELL YOU NO LIES
SHE WAS ADORABLE AND SMART
BUT FROM THIS WORLD HAD TO PART.

SHE HAD A VERY SORE LEG
THOUGH NEVER DID SHE BEG
FOR ATTENTION OR TREAT
OR TO COME IN FROM THE HEAT.

SHE JUST STOOD AND BEHAVED
AND TRIED TO BE BRAVE.

WE AT THE RESCUE THOUGHT IT BEST
TO LET HER ETERNALLY REST.
SO ON OCTOBER THE 20TH AT 6:07
WE TURNED HER FREE AND SENT HER TO HEAVEN.

LAID TO REST BY THE VET
ONE CAN SURELY BET,
SQUEEKS IS LEAVING KISSES AND WHINNEYS
TO ALL THE TRIPLE H MINIS

GOOD-BYE SQUEEKS

Euthanasia

Euthanasia is always a hard, traumatic, sad, and tough decision to make. However, sometimes it is the most compassionate action one can take. Triple H Miniature Horse Rescue is faced with this sort of decision once in a while and it is always well thought out before any kind of action is taken. We visit with the vet and farrier to get their opinions as well when faced with a euthanasia decision.

GUIDELINES FOR EUTHANASIA:

  • Does the horse have chronic pain?
  • Is there chronic or severe lameness?
  • Has there been, or is there a severe injury?
  • Does or will the horse have any quality of life?
  • Is the horse dangerous to itself or others?
  • Is the horse's pain curable?
  • What are the financial responsibilities for the horse?
  • Is the horse adoptable?
