A Mandan organization has helped rescue 11 miniature ponies.
Allison Smith, director and founder of the Triple-H Miniature Horse Rescue, received a call from the American Humane asking them to take in the animals.
The horses come from a breeder who did not take adequate care of them. The horses apparently received about a handful of grain a day, and if water was available, it had about 2 inches of algae on top of it, said Smith.
A nearby visitor reported that the horses were not properly taken care of. The visitor then bought the horses from the breeder and looked for a place for the miniature horses to stay.
The transporter that works with Triple-H Miniature Horse Rescue lives about 10 miles from where the horses needed to be picked up.
"Everything worked out perfectly to get them here as quick as possible," said Smith.
The horses arrived in Mandan on July 7. They are now being nursed back into a healthy state.
