Texas Seizure

Triple H Miniature Horse Rescue was alerted back in late January 2010 about a horrific seizure of 141 animals in Jefferson, Texas. We were told in amongst 10 unlicensed and uninsured circus cats were parrots, exotic birds, horses, dogs, cats, ducks, turkeys, monkey, kotimundi, turtles and you name it, it was there. The animals were were all living in 3 RV trailers along with the owners.

According to the D.A.'s office the smell of urine and rotting was tremendous. The circus cats were living outside in small cages, feet sore from standing in their own urine and feces for such a long time. The Humane Society estimated that they had not been removed from their cages for over two years! A day or two before they could get there the lion passed away from illness and was buried in a pit in the back. One miniature horse was found stuffed into a portable gray dog carrier and after several weeks died from pneumonia and other complications.

In the News

58 of the 141 animals were either euthanized or died of illness. 70% of the dogs were found to have heart worms and tape or hook worms. All the domestic cats were euthanized due to rampant respiratory infections as well as the duck abd turkey as their origin was unknown for disease control.

Some of the Iguanas had mouth rot and a there was a host of other animals with other diseases. We volunteered to take the horses if other homes could not be found. They called us in a few days and said they wanted Triple H to take them as they liked what the rescue had done in the past with others. A nice compliment for the rescue.

One problem, this case had to go to court and this all takes time. The case went to trial and was won hands down, all the animal were safe for now but........an appeal was filed 10 days later and that held it up some more. The appeal was lost by the former owner March 12th and the animals were finally free.

The mini that eventually died held on for several weeks prior to the appeal but eventually succumbed and sadly never got to make it to ND for help. The horses are emaciated, have overgrown hooves and some have very bad teeth but all are in good spirits and are going to make it through this one day at a time. We are so happy to be able to continue with our mission of giving miniature horses HELP, HOPE and HOMES. Thanks to all who helped with this mission.

A SPECIAL THANKS GOES OUT TO:

  • CAROLING WEDDING-the Humane Society Director in charge of the whole seizure (QUOTED) "The food was contaminated...even though some may not have been ill at this moment, if this continues, they will be," said Wedding.
  • WILLIAM GLEASON-the D.A. of who did a great job at the trials and acted as a voice for our animal victims. (QUOTED)""When you've got 50 small animals in a camper trailer that smells like 18 years of rotting urine, you're not taking care of your animals," said William Gleason, the Marion County District Attorney."
  • DR CAROL HEDGES-who not only housed several of the animals but tried her best to help the little mini who passed (We named her Scribbles)
  • CARISBROKE TRANSPORT- Bill MEYER-who transported the horses for us for 1/3 of the cost.
  • FACEBOOK FANS OF TRIPLE H-who donated money and bought our fundraising baskets
  • MY HUSBAND STEVE-who puts up with my crazy ideas and supports all my horse rescue hair-brained ideas! And most of all, he does all the HARD labor. He is the best!
  • AL VOELLER, our farrier for coming right away to trim the horses and provide much needed comfort.
  • DR. RUSS VOIGT who floated all of the horses' teeth right away and gelded Tex, the stud. Dr. Russ is a very caring vet who knows how concerned we get about these types of cases. He is an awesome vet. We could not even attempt to do it without his help and knowledge.
